Frequently asked questions
- Why is my GIF so large?
- GIF is an old format that stores every frame as a full image, so even a few seconds can be big. Keep the clip short, use the Smaller preset, and expect a GIF to be larger than the equivalent MP4. For a long clip, a video format is usually the better choice.
- How long can the clip be?
- There is no hard time limit, but GIFs are meant for short moments, and the input is capped at 200 MB for GIF output because a long clip makes an enormous file. A few seconds keeps the result crisp and the size reasonable; trim a longer video first.
- Will the GIF have sound?
- No. GIF is an image format and cannot carry audio, so the sound is dropped. If you need sound, convert to MP4 or WebM instead.
- Is my video really not uploaded?
- No. Your video is read and converted on your own device and never sent anywhere. You can prove it: make one GIF while online (which downloads the GIF engine once, about 32 MB), then switch to airplane mode and make another. It still works, because everything needed is now on your machine.
