Frequently asked questions
- Does this keep the video?
- No. Converting to MP3 keeps only the audio track and discards the picture, which is the point: you get a small audio-only file. If you want to keep the video, convert it to MP4 or another video format instead.
- What bitrate is the MP3, and how do the presets differ?
- Smaller file targets 96 kbps, Balanced 160 kbps and Best quality 256 kbps. Each rate is shown next to the option in the quality menu, and both conversion engines target the same numbers. Pick Best quality if you are keeping the file, Smaller if you are sending it somewhere. One thing worth knowing: the source sets the ceiling. If the video's audio is already 128 kbps, asking for 256 kbps makes a larger file without adding back quality that was already discarded.
- Can I extract audio from an iPhone video?
- Yes. iPhone videos are usually MOV files with HEVC video and AAC audio. This reads them and writes out an MP3, on Safari natively and on Chrome or Firefox through a built-in compatibility engine.
- Is my file really not uploaded?
- No. Your video is read and the audio extracted on your own device, never sent anywhere. You can prove it: convert one video while online, then switch to airplane mode and convert another of the same kind. It still works, because everything needed is now on your machine. A file in a different format may need its own one-time engine download first.
